Robi Hutas

Robi “Bullhog” Hutas has photographed internationally, from the beaches to the desert and the mountains.  His black and white photography of California Beach Volleyball is exhibited across the United States, as well as in Europe and Australia – and has won many honors as “Hall of Fame Beach Volleyball Photography” since 1970.

Robi, also has a keen interest in other forms of artistic expression.

In 1985, he tried his hand at acrylics on canvas.  He quickly turned to watercolors, creating his own controlled style.  His background in photography inspired a sense of realism in his paintings, while allowing him to further explore his love of color.

Robi was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1936.

He studies Organic Chemistry at the University of Budapest until 1952.  During the Hungarian Revolution in 1956, he escaped Hungary to Austria via Germany, arriving in the United States on January 16, 1957.  He was drafted into the U.S. Army as 716 Military Police and spent most of his 2 years of service in the South during the Civil Rights Movement.  There, he guarded James H. Meredith who had enrolled at the University Of Ole Miss in Oxford.  In 1964, he proudly became an American Citizen.
