Angelina D’Arcy – Solo Art Exhibition, A New Perspective

May 17, 2014 - June 1, 2014

Born June 1, 1972, in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia – Angelina D’Arcy spent her first 22 years of life in various parts of Australia. Born to immigrant parents – an Irish father and Anglo-Indian mother, a mixed cultural heritage in a diverse cultural country, growing up in Australia provided many rich experiences that are seen in her work. From the vibrant colors of the Outback where she spent time as a child, to the clash of cultures and gender often as a byproduct of diversity – Angelina’s perspective is colored by her own bi-cultural identity and experiences. Artistic as child, art was a constant expression until her late teens.

Angelina moved to the United States in 1995. After a long hiatus from creativity, she returned to her roots as an artist while in the midst of her studies in 2011. Pursuing a B.S in Psychology at the time and then a Master’s in Social Work, art became self-care. Painting became both a welcome distraction and a serious focus; “I find it as necessary to my wellbeing as meditation and could not imagine life without creativity as an active part of it”.

Her latest work incorporates a new perspective, influenced by social awareness and sensitivity to issues such as gender identity, oppression, and sexuality. Her work is in international collections and exhibited locally here in California.

Angelina graduates with a MSW from USC May 16, 2014, and is an instructor of art workshops at 608 North Gallery in Redondo Beach, CA.
